Offline, and into a hole

I’m going offline, and into a hole (literally) for the next few days. Think sleeping on the ground, and carrying the food and water that keep you alive. There will be a video camera; expect a story, and footage. See you back on top, eventually. Sometimes it's an uphill push, even for Batman

Despite its recent release, The Dark Knight (July 2008) appears near the top of my personal list for all-time favorite superhero/action movies. The character interaction, cinematography, and of course the late Heath Ledger’s performance as “The Joker” make Hollywood’s latest Batman franchise installment an arguable classic. No exaggeration, the first time I saw the film in-theater, the following dialogue stood out to me for its deep moral truth. Note... Read More

A Week of Giving: Boy Scouts of America

Day One _ Day Two _ Day Three _ Day Four _ Day Five The following post was written by Chris Griffith, a 2006 Eagle Scout recipient. Griffith is an active participant in both a local Boy Scouts of America council, and the Lindsay (Okla.) troop. What is the Boy Scouts of America? The Boy Scouts of America, or BSA, was founded on February 8, 1910, nearly 100 years ago. Within those 100 years, the BSA has produced many leaders you know, and some you don’t. Many of these men have... Read More

Movember–the growth stops here

Hello, December. Good bye, Movember. The month “formerly known as November” has come to an end, and with it a celebratory shave seemed appropriate. It’s been over a year (June 2008) since I last wore facial hair above the lip. Moreover, due to an agreement with my wife, I never foresaw a mustache making a comeback on this face. Then, it happened. Movember found me, and I found a reason to grow a “mo” again. With some marital cooperation, and after... Read More

Oreos, Yoda, and the State Fair

This past weekend marked the end of this year’s Oklahoma State Fair, held annually in Oklahoma City, Okla., since the early-1900s. The 2009, 10-day event began Thursday, Sept. 17, and concluded Sunday, Sept. 27. Yesterday served as the day of choice for my wife, Nicci, and I to both attend and experience this year’s event–camera in-hand. Included below are some of our personal highlights from this year’s fair to inlcude the typical fair food, an art exhibit,... Read More

Pauls Valley Fire Department Back In The News

For the second time this year, the city of Pauls Valley (Okla.) has made headlines due to the loss of a historic structure because of fire. The first incident came in March with the destruction of the Honest Bus Pawn Shop due to a blaze. The second incident came yesterday with the destruction of the old Leland-Alvis Hotel, also due to a blaze. With each issue of flames the presence of the Pauls Valley Fire Department has been required; both times to also include the assistance... Read More

Looking Back On a Night Looking Forward (pt. 2)

This is part two of a two-part series; click here for part one. Participants at the Garvin County Social Media/Technology Gathering experienced a different type of event on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Area residents came together to both hear from, and be heard by, their peers. Those in attendance tweeted, twitpiced, and video chatted throughout the two hour occasion, posting their personal comments and highlights in “real time” online for others to see. Communities represented... Read More

Personality: On The Desktop

As I sit in front of the computer at which I do the majority of my writing, a thought occurred to me this morning. The physical desktop upon which I work looks like a collage of projects, visual aids, and technology strewn about. Or at least united in one pile. It’s true. I am a self-diagnosed eclectic, and my workspace reveals my personality. Blog posts to be written. Videos to be captured. Books to be read. Customer projects to create. Humanity to serve. Sports teams... Read More

Using Technology To Connect Technology has come a long way over the last 100 years. I mean just think… Did Alexander Graham Bell ever imagine that his invention would eventually be used to connect people from around the world with more than just their voice? With just a flick of a finger we can send audio, video, or a picture all around the world using a device that fits in the palm of your hand. Now that’s true mobility. I use this “mobile technology” for... Read More
